Household Hazardous Waste Programs

Proper disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is good for your household and good for the town.  Residents are encouraged to participate in available Household Hazardous Waste Programs:

City of Franklin

Some items may have disposal fees – see Franklin Transfer Station flyers or call 934-3206

FREE disposal held annually on the last Saturday in July

The following items are regulated by federal & state laws and cannot be disposed of in curbside collection or at the Transfer Station. The City of Franklin has a free Hazardous Waste Collection Day on the last Saturday of July where a number of these items are accepted.  Hazardous materials include:

  • Ammunition
  • Anti-freeze
  • Asbestos
  • Chemicals
  • Explosives
  • Fertilizers
  • Fuels  (gasoline, diesel, kerosene)
  • Oil Based Paints
  • Paint Thinner
  • Pesticides
  • Pool Chemicals
  • Radioactive Materials  (smoke detectors)
  • Sealants
  • Stains
  • Unused Medications

Lakes Region

The Lakes Region Household Hazardous Product Facility is a storage facility where regional residents can safely and conveniently dispose of unwanted materials that pose a threat to the human and natural environment.  Lakes Region Household Hazardous Product Facility (LRHHPF) accepts HHW every 3rd Saturday May through October from 8:30 AM-Noon.  Fees may apply.

Other Possible Options

If by chance you missed, or cannot wait until our regional HHW collections there are other disposal options throughout the year:

  • Goffstown Dept. of Public Works accepts hazardous waste, year-round, by appointment.  Call (603) 497-4824 for more information or visit their website at https://goffstown.com/
  • Keene HHW Collections allows residents from non-particpating communities to dispose of hazardous waste for a fee (up to 50 gallons).  Visit   https://keenenh.gov/public-works/household-hazardous-waste-information
  • Pemi-Baker Solid Waste District allows non-district residents to drop off HHW for a fee
  • Contact the North Country Council for more info by calling (603) 444-6303 or emailing info@nccouncil.org
